Two Nights By Kathy Reichs

Two Nights is a stand alone novel by Kathy Reichs, I was lucky to get an ARC copy of this book for a review. The book is realised either 29th June 2017 or 11th July 2017 depending on your country.

Two nights follows Sunday Night, she has retired the military and now she has after left the police forces due to disability, she is brought into a case to pull her out of being a recluse. 1 year ago a bomb was set of at a Jewish Girls school, killing a mother and son her daughter never found. Sunday is hired by the grandmother to find the people responsible and to find out the fate of her granddaughter. When Sunday goes to Chicago and starts digging for the truth, Sunday realise that there is more going on that just a missing Girl, and why she feels so connected to this missing girl.

I must admit that when I first started reading the book I didn’t realise that Sunday was a women, as we are first information we are giving is her situation and not her appearance. The story was really interesting, the outcome of the story isn’t one I would have guessed at the beginning. I also like the way in which the author gave us information about Sunday without realising it. I want to know more about Sunday and her twin brother Gus maybe a prequel as from some smell pieces of information sounded interesting.

If you like crime fiction where the character are not restricted by the rules of law enforcement than give this book a read.

Monster in the Closet (Romantic Suspense #19 Baltimore #5) By Karen Rose

Monster in the Closet by Karen Rose is book #19 in her Romantic suspense but book 5 in the Baltimore series. This has been released to celebrate 10 year of Karen Rose in the U.K, and me being hooked on her as a writer for 10 years)

The last book in the Baltimore series was Watch your Back in 2013-2014, so it nice to want is happening with these characters. As the books follow one/ two characters more it nice when you still get to see their lives continuing in the other stories.

This book starts with Jazzie an 11-year-old girl who works is turned upside down when she comes home to find her mother dead and her Murderer in the closet. The murder doesn’t know she is their and hides. Jazzie doesn’t tell anyone what she has seen, she hasn’t spoken a work since. Until she speak to Taylor a new therapist at healing hearts. She might be the only person that can help her, before the murder find out she was their. Taylor also has her own story to tell as she come to find out if she been told the truth or lies her whole life.

I like Karen Rose writing style as in the book we get to see the story from multiple different sides, giving us a wider view of the story . As well as getting to catch up with character who’s stories we read in the previous 4 books.

I really enjoyed the story as this story was more knowing who the bad guy was and getting the evidence than the previous which don’t revile to near the end of the book. The story kept me gripped as I ended up staying up late to finished it.

Karen Rose doesn’t shy away from having character with faults or disability. She also show that when something bad happens in someone life there not going to get over it straight away. She shows that it’s ok to be effected but it still ok to be happy and live your life.

Karen Rose book are great for people who like their crime stories with a  little romance. I would advise if you havent read the books yet to read them in order as you get to see more of an evolution of character and relationships this way.

Ashes of the Phoenix by Jess Haines

I was lucky enough to get a copy of this book from Weapenry Co-Op. via Netgalley for a fair and honest review.

The Ashes of the Phoenix follows Lyra Adams a bookshop owner who happens to be human dealing in magical books. Problems arise when she ends up in position of a powerful book that wizards, sorcerer and magi want. Trying to stop the book being stolen Lyra is hit with a powerful spell, now Lyra has to get her book back and get her human body back. Will she burn or will she be reborn from the ashes like the legend of the Phoenix.

The book is great if you haven’t got a lot of time to read. All the action happens within one day meaning the book is fast paced. I didn’t expect the twist at the end which always a plus for me.

Plus side of the book for me:

1: Lyra has my dream job of working in a bookshop dealing in magic.

2: Best magically creature aka the Phoenix.

3: Strong female character.

4: hint of Romance

5: Fight scenes

6: Hidden magically world in Florida

I liked that I could read it in one reading session but it’s a good story so you want it to last longer.

My only issue is that I would rather have Lyra with Robert than James but I understand for story wise,  James is more interesting.

I found Jess Haines from her H + W Investigations series where again she has created a wonderful world where magic lives secretly.

I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Frostblood (Frostblood saga #1) by Elly Blake

My final book in my holiday Marathon is FrostBlood the first book in Elly Blake FrostBlood saga.
This book follows Ruby a Fireblood she is born with the ability to control Fire. The only problem is that she lives in the lead rule by FrostBlood and to be a Fireblood is a crime.
Ruby life is changed for every when her village is raided her mother dies looking for her. From that day she swears to avenge her mother, she forms an alliances with a FrostBlood Rebel Arcus but is Arcus friend or foe. She has one chance to destroy the FrostBlood King but she will have no idea of what this will cost her.
Ruby is a really interesting character, you can see her character evolved as she learns to control her abilities. My favourite parts are the interactions between Arcus and Ruby as they try to gain the upper hand with each other, and how the interaction changes as that get to know each other.
The book added wrapping up the storyline really well, but you know that their is much more to come. I can’t wait to read Fireblood it on my I need to buy list.
I give this book

Flame in the Mist (Flame in the Mist #1) by Renee Ahdieh

Flame in the Mist was the book I received out of my May Fairyloot box. I was happy to see this book in the box as it has been on my wish list since i heard of it.
The book follows Mariko the daughter of a prominent samurai, who has grown up believing her only use it to be a wife. She is betrothed to a man her father choice to give him more influence. Mariko will is her knowledge and her observation to find the truth, but she find out more truth then she every thought she would find.

I like Mariko what other people find her oddness I enjoyed she is a women of knowledge and science. In a world where a women job it to be beautiful and bare children.
There is so much going on in this book that makes me think that this is only the beginning. I believe that this is only the start for Mariko . This book is truly a gripping story with such a vivid and interesting world.

Winter (The Lunar Chronicles #4) by Marissa Meyer

Winter is book 4 and the last book in the Lunar Chronicles. We meet back with are merry band of rebels after the kidnapping of Kai to stop his wedding to Levana. Cinder and her crew have a plan to start a rebellion on Luna. All they have to do it get the wedding to happen in Luna. Although once on Luna everything doesn’t go to plan. But Cinder will stop at nothing to start a rebellion against Levana and free Luna from her tyranny.
In this book we get to see more of Winter (aka Snow White) story and her life under Levana rule. Winter is a very interesting character loved by all that meet her, and not to be like Levana she has stopped using her gift, which is driving her to the brink of insanity.

We also learn more about Levana and why she is the way she is. Although it didn’t stop me not liking her I did feel pity.
This book is full of action with many twists and turns, this book is a great way to end the series.

Etched in Bones (The Others #5) by Anne Bishop

Etched in Bones is book 5 in Anne Bishops series The Others.
The book follows Meg a blood prophet and Simon a wolf shifter. The world is coming to turns with the retaliation of the Elders of the Other due to the attack my the Human First and last. Lakeside is being watched by the Elders to get a better of which human can be trusted or not. As lakeside have a community of both human and Others work in peace.

This peace is disturbed by the arrival of lieutenant Montgomery shady brother, who is only out for himself. His arrival in Lakeside could cause bigger ramifications not just for Lakeside but other areas as well.
I really enjoy reading the book from Simon perspective as he is a wolf living with human and trying to make sense of them. May time Simon reaction to the exploding fluff balls (Meg female pack) has made me laugh and smile.
My favourite new character was Miss Twyla she is lieutenant Montgomery mother, and she has taken the roll of mother of the pack. She has no problems speaking her mind and doing what she thinks best. She is very nonsense which is enjoyable to read.
I enjoy this series because it nice having a fresh telling of the supernatural creatures. Especially in this series it the other in charge and not humans, and humans have to respect the fact that if they cross them they will eaten.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5

The Devil’s Triangle (A Brit in the FBI #4) by Catherine Coulter & J.T Ellison

I thought I would have a break from fantasy and go to be other book love of crime fiction.
The Devils Triangle is the fourth book in the Brit in the FBI following Nicholas Drummond and Michaela Caine as they now have their own team Covert Eye. The job it to tackle crime and criminal international. This book brings back Kitsune ‘the fox’ a very clever and talented thief she called Nicholas asking for help she has stolen an religious artefact and on delivering it to her customer tries to kill her. Nicholas and Michaela are tasked with arresting her and bring her back to the states but things become more completed as Kitsune has stumbled onto a bigger operation that could cause destruction to the world.

These book are in the same universe as Catherine FBI series as Savich will have small parts in this book. Nicholas Drummond was introduced to us in The Final Key when he is still working with British Scotland Yard and help Savich Sherlock and Caine recover the stolen Koh-I-Noor diamond.
Nicholas mother is American and father is English as he has joint citizenship he was talked into joining the FBI where he has had one of the quickest rise in the ranks.

I do enjoy this series especially Drummond and Caine but their are element that I have to take with a pinch of salt. The series is becoming more like James Bond than the standard crime fiction. The action scene are epic and enjoyable very movie worthy, the plot are more simple very cut and dry who is good and who is bad. I don’t if it because I am a twin that I didn’t like the one dimension of the Twins in this book there were both brilliant but the way in which they handled situation wasn’t to me logical.
I can’t wait to see what International crime that Drummond and Caine have to solve next and what part of the world they will be saving.

Blue Blooded (Jessica McClain #6) by Amanda Carlson

Day Three of my holiday and on to the third book which is Blue Blooded the sixth book in the Jessica McClain series.
This series follows Jessica McClain the only female werewolf in the world, her destiny is be on the high council of the supernatural world. Not everyone is happy with this causing Jessica to face many challenges one that altered her off her true path. Now Jessica has one of the Hags of fate wanting her dead to pay for the death of her sister. She has kidnapped her friends now Jessica has to save them and make a sacrifice to atone. The problem is now she is another country and she isn’t sure who she can and can’t trust.
The High council is made up of 5 different supernatural being, all 5 of them being female. I like this element as in a lot of book series the high power are men. It nice that the higher power in this book is women. Although not all men are happy about this, the people that Jessica has on her team have no problem referring to her as Alpha.
Jessica is mated to an older Were Rourke and he is the last of his Kind, they work well as a team it nice to see the struggle that Rourke has when Jessica has to go into dangerous situation and he can’t go with her. He knows she is strong but she is his mate and its his job to protect her.
I lot of the main group of characters have been mated off by the end of this book, wouldn’t life be great if life was that easy just meeting the person and knowing there it.
This book ends the journey that Jessica has been on since the beginning and left us knowing a new journey has begun. It good this story arch is over as some author keep trying to get more books at of one story arch which Amanda Carlson hasn’t. At the end of the book the world is changing for Jessica and Rourke and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
I give this 4 out of 5. I think I need to start I point 5 system as I lot of books I’m reading are getting 4.
